Kim is a ceramicist with over 25 years experience. She specializes in burnishing and smoke firing,
techniques that enhance the natural beauty of clay. Burnishing is a time consuming process that is
very meditative. The high sheen is achieved by rubbing a hard object on the clay just before it dries,
creating a polished surface without a glaze. In contrast the smoke firing is not predictable and creates
beautiful effects.
Describe what you will be demonstrating at the event
Kim will demonstrate the process of burnishing as well as how to start making a pinch pot object. I am
also hoping to bring some small pebble shapes for visitors to have a go at burnishing themselves.
