Estelle Hazlewood Sculptor 2025

Estelle creates sculptures in stone using traditional techniques. Her sculptures emerge out of a sense of deep time, pointing to the durability of natural things and the power of endurance of the human spirit.

For Estelle, making sculpture is a conversation with the stone. Responding to forms in the rock, she feels her way through points of resistance, asking what it wants to be. She is an excavator, removing layers, revealing its core.

Inspired by ancient stone sculpture, Estelle sees sculpting as an act of reverence for mother Earth and an expression of the human impulse to leave a mark.

Estelle will demonstrate the process of direct carving in stone using traditional hand tools – She will talk about the properties of various stones and how engaging with natural materials inspires her artistic practice.
