Fourlegswood 2023
Around 4 years ago, after a long career in digital design and staring at a small patch of computer screen real estate, the desire to work with tangible materials, wood, glue, fabric and tools became a reality. I stumbled across an upholstery training course and a fire was lit. I was living in the historical home of British furniture, High Wycombe, where there was no shortage of upholstery skills and furniture to be recycled. I was soon tearing apart dusty old Parker Knolls and glueing together decrepit Gplans, saving them from the fate of household waste. I soon realised my digital skills could feed into the whole process and fabric design was the way to go. Starting with drawings of ladies shoes, I developed a range of fabric designs that combined raw monoprinted texture with lyrical outlines of glamourous footware. Digital printing allows for short runs of fabric print and the flexibility to alter colourways to suit a particular chair, another area of my digital background. My work is retailed in a number of stores, venues and markets where I both sell and take commissions for unique furniture pieces. I continue to develop my own fourlegswood fabric and partner with other designers to create fantastic upholstery for pre loved chairs.
