Jan Hoyle 2025

Jan’s art is a tactile exploration of what she sees around her and the emotions generated. She translates these images into textile art, replacing the brush with wool fibres, fabric and stitch to create vibrant felted work. The felting process involves the agitation and compression of wool fibres, causing them to interlock and create a solid fabric. The incorporation of different coloured fibres and additional materials allows for endless creative possibilities in design and texture. She loves to embellish her work with hand stitching to add interest and detail.

Jan will be making small felted pots. Wool fibres are layered around a circular resist. This is then wetted with soapy water and gently rubbed until the fibres felt together. The resist is then removed from the centre through a small hole leaving a hollow vessel. This is finished and rinsed and left to dry.
