I’m Jane Clowes, a ceramic artist based in Stoke on Trent, working from a studio built in my back garden. I started my business 4 years ago. I produce functional earthenware pieces. My drawings of birds are applied onto the pieces as ceramic transfers. I am inspired by the Staffordshire pottery tradition and mid century design. My work relates to coastal locations and our sea birds. I like to combine the precision of hand building techniques with visible joins using a contrasting coloured slip. I make a range of domestic ware including mugs, bowls, jugs, soap dishes. I am extending my range to include butter dishes and espresso cups.
