Jo Hill Textiles 2022

I have been involved with textile design since completing my degree and I became a fulltime textile artist and tutor around fifteen years ago. I specialise in free motion embroidery or drawing with my sewing machine, I have expanded this technique, pushing boundaries so that my current work is semi abstract and inspired by the landscapes which surround my home in the Staffordshire countryside.

I work from my delightful garden studio where I love to incorporate, and are influenced by, the ever changing couloirs of nature… the flowers in my garden, hedgerows, trees and far reaching skies. I particularly enjoy dying my own fabrics, creating unusual effects and colour combinations which I then use in my work.

Recently I have been experimenting with mixed media and this has resulted in a series of works called “Inspired by my Mother’s Garden”. The techniques I have used in this series include breakdown printing, hand dyed fabrics, fabric and paper collage as well machine and hand embroidery.
