Sarah Myatt Glass 2022
Hello, My name is Sarah and I’m a self employed glass artist from Leek in Staffordshire. I’ve been running my business Sarah Myatt Glass for over thirteen years and I work from my studio, which is based in my garden at home accompanied by my dog called Boo.
I graduated in 2000 from the University of Wolverhampton with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in 3D Glass Design.
It feels (and is) a very long time ago! We learned many different glass techniques from stained glass, casting and glass blowing, but it was kiln forming that I fell in love with and that’s what I use now in my practice.
My work consists of mainly fused glass suncatchers that are perfect for windows, walls or even the garden! The main focus of my work is to bring colour and joy to people’s lives, making people smile is also a big driving force. I love working with glass, it comes in a huge array of colours and patterns and I just love the feel of glass and the way light can completely transform a piece. Ideas can spark from many places, I am definitely inspired by my surroundings and a natural theme runs through my range of glass ware.
I have two faithful kilns to keep me toasty in the winter months and boiling hot in summer! My studio consists of materials such as sheet glass, frits (crushed glass), glass rods and metals which I fuse together using kiln forming techniques. Other than kilns, I have a few more pieces of equipment like a glass saw and grinder, but the main tool I use is my oil filled glass cutter as practically everything I make is individually hand cut.
