About Sarah
Hello, My name is Sarah and I’m a self employed glass artist from Leek in Staffordshire. I’ve been running my business Sarah Myatt Glass for over twelve years and I work from my studio, which is based in my garden at home accompanied by my dog called Boo.
I graduated in 2000 from the University of Wolverhampton with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in 3D Glass Design.
It feels (and is) a very long time ago! We learned many different glass techniques from stained glass, casting and glass blowing, but it was kiln forming that I fell in love with and that’s what I use now in my practice.
My Work
My work consists of mainly fused glass suncatchers that are perfect for windows, walls or even the garden! The main focus of my work is to bring colour and joy to people’s lives, making people smile is also a big driving force. I love working with glass, it comes in a huge array of colours and patterns and I just love the feel of glass and the way light can completely transform a piece. Ideas can spark from many places, I am definitely inspired by my surroundings and a natural theme runs through my range of glass ware.
How To Buy My Work
I have a website http://www.sarahmyattglass.co.uk but I currently use Folksy as my main online selling platform https://folksy.com/shops/SarahMyattGlass I also sell through galleries and gift shops throughout the UK and you can find out more here https://www.sarahmyattglass.co.uk/stockists Before the pandemic I attended two regular markets every month, The Sunday Supplement in Leek and the Treacle Market in Macclesfield and I am looking forward to taking part in these events again.
My Workspace
My studio is based in my garden at home and I have two faithful kilns to keep me toasty in the winter months and boiling hot in summer! My studio consists of materials such as sheet glass, frits (crushed glass), glass rods and metals which I fuse together using kiln forming techniques. Other than kilns, I have a few more pieces of equipment like a glass saw and grinder, but the main tool I use is my oil filled glass cutter as practically everything I make is individually hand cut.
Leek Open Studios and Art Trail
I have been involved with Leek Open Studios for the last three years and I love being a part of it, the amount of creativity in Leek is simply amazing! Everyone is so supportive of one another and it’s a great opportunity to learn more about other makers and their creative work life.
Local Art Networks
Take a good nosey around all the fab creatives listed on here as the Leek Open Studios website is a wonderful resource to learn about lots of artists in the area!
