Sue Blatherwick Ceramics 2025

Sue uses traditional techniques of slip decoration in contemporary and colourful ways. Painterly brushmarks are applied to her work while it is in the leatherhard stage, giving a lively fluidity to the marks. She makes a range of items including tiles, brooches, beakers, bowls, plates, platters. All work uses a food safe glaze and is fired in an electric kiln. She has a studio in the wilds of Barrow Moor, between Leek and Longnor. Her work is informed by Anglo Japanese ceramics. She is an Associate Artist with the British Ceramics Biennial and recently created the ‘Slip Tales Dinner Party’ with communities in Stoke-on-Trent.
