Twisted Sticks 2025

Inspired by fusing nature and nurture Jonathan twists the stems, branches and twigs of young trees in walkingsticks, wizardy staffs and witchy wands. He leaves the trees to grow for several years, allowing the forms to set and strengthen. Jonathan incorporates semi precious stone and glass into his growing pieces, these get locked in place as the tree grows around them. He uses wire to induce spiraling in the stems, a process created naturally in the wild by honeysuckle.

Jonathan will demonstrate techniques used to finish a grown staff, from carving to best display the grain, to sanding and polishing. He will also be working to add antler and bone handles.
