Benjamin Wells 2023
Having leant towards the sciences in my education I had not really had any artistic outlet in my life until I started flameworking about ten years ago. I came across some glass art peices online and, intrigued about the process, dove down a rabbit hole of glassy discovery. I started making glass beads on a very simple set up in a delapidated shed and I was hooked from that moment onwards. I have since invested in an improved shed, upgraded my torch a few times and bought a kiln large enough to anneal the stemware I love to make. I use a propane and oxygen torch to melt glass tubes and rods and manipulate the glass into the desired shapes. I make a range of items from small comic sculptures to unique stemware. My inspiration comes from many sources from Venetian glassware to the natural world and Tolkien’s dragons.
